Flowking Stone’s “Gifted II” Album: What to Expect

Spread the love

Albums aren’t just a collection of songs. Albums aren’t just a playlist. An album is a body of work which gives fans and listeners a sonic experience. To that effect, it’s a necessity to have a group of trusted people listen

to such projects to ensure perfection. On 29 Nov, 2018, special ears in Kumasi (i.e. media personnel) were selected to listen to Flowking Stone’s upcoming album dubbed “Gifted II.”

After the release of “Gifted” two years ago, Flowking stepped into the booth again to deliver his fans and the world at large a new album. The rapper/songwriter himself defines the “Gifted” sequel as a gift full of gifts in a form of a mixed genres. The album ranges from Hip-Hop to Afrobeats, Reggae, folk music, and what have you. But no matter how Flowking experiments these different sounds, he still pivots around Hip-Hop/Rap.

He features an impressive list of artistes from Ghana and beyond. The good thing is, only two songs have been released from the album thus far – “One Love” Ft. Adina, and “Blow My Mind” Ft. Akwaboah. Track after track, these highly distinguished critics couldn’t single out a song as a bad one. There were points where the songs had to be paused for loud applause to flow. The reaction to “Let Them Know” was massive – the producer, Tubhani sampled a Highlife tune and made classic Hip-Hop out of it. “Hustler’s Prayer (Abranteɛ)” is a live recorded song which sees Stone singing about the realities of being a young man in this generation.

The 2017 VGMA Hiplife Song of the Year award winner, Stone features Mr Eazi, Dr Sid, and Krayon all from Nigeria, bringing in the Naija flavour into the album. He also features the youth’s favourite, Kwesi Arthur, and does a masterpiece Rap-Dancehall tune with Samini. “Nana” is another live recorded song that Stone did with a folk music band from Kumasi Cultural Center. If you loved “Rapping Drums”, this is definitely yours. Another song which I can’t leave undiscussed is “Darling” which features Nana Yaa. The harmony that runs through the background of this song is something to be experienced.

The producers who worked on the project did magic. TuhaniMuzik and KC Beatz who produced majority of the album were present, and they received the deserved acknowledgement. There are a host of others, such as AFRIMA award winner, Guiltybeatz, B2, Mizter Okyere, Willis Beatz, etc.

“Gifted II” is the album which takes you on a mental flight whilst serving you with food for thought, nostalgic love atmosphere, and affixed parties. Be prepared!
